Kevin ha 22 anni e studia ingegneria meccanica; le sue produzioni hanno un sapore retrò molto 80s …qualcuno ha etichettato questo genere con il nome di future funk o vaporwave.
La rete ha colmato la distanza tra Roma e il Colorado, ci siamo fatti una chiaccherata.

Prima di tutto …chi è veramente KEV//BOT?
First of all… who is KEV//BOT?
Come potete immaginare il mio vero nome è Kevin. Sono uno studente di ingeneria meccanica di 22 anni alla Colorado State University. Nato e crescito in Colorado. Ho iniziato a produrre più o meno un anno fa ma prima suonavo la chitarra e l basso. Per ora tutte le mie release sono uscite per l’etichetta KEATS//COLLECTIVE.
As you could probably guess, my name is Kevin haha. I am a 22 year old mechanical engineering student at Colorado State University. Born and raised in Colorado. Started making sample music about a year ago but I grew up playing guitar and bass. Do all of my releases through KEATS//COLLECTIVE.

Come (e ascoltando cosa) è iniziata la passione per le produzioni strumentali e i beat?
How (and listening to what) did you passion for instrumental productions and beats start?
Ho iniziato ascoltando Dinosaurus Rex. DREX (Dan) ed io siamo buoni amici già dai tempi della scuola e lui per primo mi ha fatto ascoltare i generi future funk e vaporwave. Dan e io abbiamo poi iniziato un progetto sperimentale chiamato MARK//ELDON con il quale ho imparato a produrre musica basata su campionamenti, dopodichè è nato il progetto KEV//BOT. Una delle più grandi influenze quando ho iniziato, e tutt’ora, è Vanilla. Lui usa sample unici, tagliati a perfezione e produce le basi in modo molto semplice. Se non lo conoscete andatevelo ad ascoltare.
I actually started out listening to Dinosaurus Rex. DREX (Dan) is a really good friend of mine from school and got me into the future funk/vapor wave genre. Dan and I had an experimental project going called MARK//ELDON and after I learned the ins and outs of making sample based music, I started KEV//BOT. By far my biggest influence when I first got started, and even today, is Vanilla. He uses super unique samples, cuts samples well, and keeps his drums simple. Da cosa è composta la tua attrezzatura per produrre beat?
What is your equipment to produce beats composed of?
All’inizio usavo FL Studios, poi a gennaio sono passato ad Ableton. Carico tutti i sample e le basi sul mio MPK25 e registro ogni traccia pezzettino per pezzettino.
I initially started out using FL Studios, but I switched to Ableton in January. I load all of the cut samples and drum kits into my MPK25 and record each track pattern by pattern.

Progetti per il presente e per il futuro
Projects for your present and future
Tra un po’ partirà un side project chiamato Japser. Tra un paio di settimane uscirà il primo pezzo: un remix che ho fatto per Spazzkid (nelle prossime settimane uscirà una raccolta di remix del suo recente album, Desire).
A parte questo, per il futuro ho messo in cantiere un lungo beat tape di una ventina di tracce, provando a non seguire nessun genere o linea guida in particolare.
I am currently starting up a side project called Japser. I am releasing my first track in a couple weeks. The track is a remix I did for Spazzkid. He is releasing an entire album of remixes from his latest album “Desire” in the next week or two. Aside from that, I think I am going to start working on a longer beat tape of about 20 tracks, following no real specific guidelines or genre.
